Collegiate Presbyterian Chruch has a strong mission commitment. Each year, 10% of our annual budget is dedicated toward mission work. This represents special gifts beyond yearly pledges that members made and the work of Church groups such as the Presbyterian Women’s Rummage Committee and CPC Walkers.

Home for Awhile is a small transitional housing project supported by 13 Ames, Iowa, churches, including  Collegiate Presbyterian Church.   The program provides short term (3-month) housing for families needing assistance while establishing more stable and sustainable living situations.  In addition to greatly reduced rent ($50 first month, $200 second and third months and reimbursed if the family meets program expectations), the program provides mentoring for a variety of family life, work, and financial issues.  Families are also asked to become or continue to be active in a church as a means for spiritual social support.  Families are referred to the program from ministers and a variety of social service agencies in the community and are selected for the program by a Home for Awhile oversight committee.  The potential to be sustaining in a near term is a critical factor in selection.  Presently, the program has three apartments with staggered opening, providing for a new family each month.

Home for Awhile is supported in 2016 by Presbytery of North Central Iowa.
