About Worship at CPC
Worship is central to the life of Collegiate Presbyterian Church. Each Sunday we come together as a community to cultivate a sense of reverence and awe for God. The sermons are biblically based, provocative, and relevant to the practice of the Christian faith in our daily lives. Our services follow the rhythm of the liturgical year. Music has a special place in our worship services, helping to open the doors of our souls and draws us closer to God. Childcare is provided for infants and preschoolers during all worship services.
The 9:00am Traditional Worship service is held in the sanctuary. While most of our music is drawn from the classical traditions, we celebrate using a diversity of hymns, responses and anthems. The reading and preaching of God’s Word is central. We share joys and concerns for prayer each week. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. A “Time for Young Christians” is offered during most worship services. In addition, our worship life is enhanced by special seasonal worship services, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday.
The 11:15am re:forming Sunday Worship service is held in the Social Hall. The name connects in various ways with the Reformed Christian tradition and CPC. For those of us familiar with the Reformed tradition, we know of the phrase mentioned in our Book of Order that we are to be ‘the church reformed, always to be reformed, according to the Word of God’ in the power of the Holy Spirit. (F-2.02) The name also connects with the specific direction CPC is moving in our emphasis on intergenerational spiritual formation. The use of “re:” connects with the subject line in email or letter—worship regarding our formation as disciples/God’s children. An additional connection is to the reality that our worship is subject to reforming as our awareness of who God is and who we are to be continues to develop.
In order to provide our families the opportunity to participate in church activities, we provide childcare for their youngest family members. A staff of 12-14 individuals are interviewed, screened, and trained to take the best care of our children. Every Sunday morning childcare is provided from 8:45am – 12:15am (during worship service, as well as during the education and fellowship hour) for children under age 5. Childcare is also provided during our Wednesday night education program, Club CPC, and for all parents involved as volunteers with this program. We also provide a service that any parent involved in a volunteer capacity at church may request childcare during their church commitment. Please email us to make a childcare request.
