We are beginning a variety of activities to celebrate our church’s heritage as we approach our 100th year anniversary in February. Some activities have already begun while other ideas are still germinating. For instance, in June we collected 100 bags of groceries for the MICA food shelf. We are thankful for the generosity of CPC members!

In addition this summer, the adult Spiritual Formation class focused on interviewing members of our church about their history, spiritual development and involvement at CPC. These sessions were recorded, and we hope to edit a DVD including those interviews, and others that will be conducted during the year.

Beginning in September, the third Sunday each month will be designated as “decade Sunday.” As we march through the year, worship music, prayers and sermons will reflect the decade being portrayed. Our pastoral and music staff will exercise their creativity in this endeavor!

Projects for our celebration include, but are not limited to:

  • A creative sewing project
  • Mission opportunities
  • Activities with children and youth centered around a theme of “100”
  • A major endowment campaign
  • A written history of CPC as gleaned from our archives
  • A recording to produce a CD of our choir and our contemporary music team

Our centennial year will culminate in a weekend of fellowship, reunion, reflection and celebration the weekend of April 29th and 30th and May 1st. There will be many opportunities that weekend to gather and socialize in and outside of our church. A gala dinner and dance is planned for April 30th at the Gateway Hotel. A celebratory church service will take place on May 1st with invited speakers. It promises to be an exciting time for all of our church members and friends, both near and far!

Our request is that you find a place to be involved with our centennial planning and activities. As the children’s song goes … “I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together…”

Nancy Anderson,
Chairperson, Centennial Committee
